BARAK’s Voices of Youth Program was implemented in 2007 in response to community needs for customized, evaluated, high-quality arts programming to serve youth in Harrisburg and surrounding communities. The goal of Voices of Youth programs is to encourage healthy, positive life choices through the study and creation of art. To achieve this goal, Voices of Youth Programs are designed to develop self confidence, interpersonal skills and creative thinking, they teach respect for peers and adults, offer strategies for coping with stress, as well as introduce career opportunities and promote cultural awareness and appreciation of the arts. During the Voices of Youth Program students work together with professional artists. The artist workshop programs can focus on mural creation, screen-printing/ clothing design, photography, creative writing, and other customized art projects. Regardless of the art form studied in a particular program, our artists teach by example, providing a strong positive role model while modeling best practices with program participants. A limited number of need-based scholarships are available. Scholarship recipients will be required to pay a (nonrefundable) $20 processing fee. |
